Privacy Policy
How JapanMust and the Japan Interpreter mobile app handle information and device permissions.
1. Scope
This policy covers japanmust.com and the Japan Interpreter app on iOS and Android. For privacy questions, email hello@japanmust.com.
2. Text, camera and translation
The app uses Google ML Kit for on-device text recognition and translation. Text entered for translation and photos scanned for recognition are processed by those on-device components rather than sent to a JapanMust translation server. Language models or resources may need to be downloaded from platform providers. The app does not require a JapanMust account.
3. Microphone and speech
Microphone permission is requested for voice interpretation. The app uses operating-system speech recognition and speech synthesis services. Depending on your device, operating system, language and settings, speech recognition may use services provided by Apple or Google, including network-based processing. Check your device's speech-recognition privacy settings. You can deny microphone access and continue using text and camera features.
4. Purchases and trial
A five-day full-feature trial begins after the first successful translation. After the trial, basic features remain free, while microphone translation requires a one-time Lifetime Premium purchase. There is no automatically renewing subscription. Apple or Google processes purchases and payment details under its own privacy terms; JapanMust does not collect your payment card details in the app. Trial status, settings and purchase access may be stored on your device.
5. Website and service providers
The website is delivered through Cloudflare, which may process IP addresses, browser details and request information to operate and protect the site. App functionality relies on Google ML Kit and Apple or Google platform services, which may process technical information under their respective policies. We do not sell text, photos or voice recordings.
6. Storage, deletion and contact
App settings, downloaded language resources and access information may be stored locally. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage may remove local data, but will not erase app-store transaction records. If you email us, we use the message to respond and may retain correspondence as necessary. For requests concerning information under our control, contact hello@japanmust.com.

We may update this policy as our services change and will revise the date above.
